Shutdown Corner - NFL

There will be a live stream of the Sunday night NFL games available for free over the internet. Once you get past the initial shock the NFL doing something seemingly consumer-friendly, there are two ways to look at this.

1) Way to go, NFL! Anything that makes the games available to a wider number of people is good, and I'm sure that there are people who will find this handy. Embrace the technology!

Or ...

2) Wait a second. You money-hungry fascists are willing to stream one game a week online, for free, and you're making it the Sunday night game? The one that's already available for free over-the-air to anyone who has a TV and an antenna? And it's not the Thursday night game, which half of the country gets locked out of because you and some other obscenely wealthy people can't decide who should be even more obscenely wealthy? Thanks a lot, Robin of Locksley.

I hate to be a Negative Nancy, but the more I think about option #1, the more steam it loses. Again, the game's already available to anyone with a TV and an antenna. How many people out there have a computer and high-speed internet, yet lack a TV and an antenna?

So I guess this only helps people who have both TV and internet (and no DVR), but want to watch Sunday night baseball on ESPN at the same time as the football game. I hadn't really thought of that as an underserved market, but whatever. The NFL's got them covered now.
