Darius Butler’s 3-month-old has open-heart surgery

After what he described as "the scariest days of my life," Carolina Panthers cornerback Darius Butler(notes) is back with the team after being with his daughter through open-heart surgery.

Butler missed the Panthers game on Sunday to be with his baby daughter Milan, who was diagnosed with heart complications earlier in the week. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and Milan is expected to make a full recovery. She'll remain at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Florida for another two weeks or so.

Here's a further update from Butler himself on Twitter:

An ECMO machine, basically, oxygenates blood for the patient until they can do it on their own.

Butler, 25, has started four games for the Panthers this season and has seen playing time in all seven. He was drafted by the Patriots in the second round in '09, and picked up by the Panthers prior to this season.
