NFL Twitter destroys Falcons after latest fourth quarter meltdown originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
The Atlanta Falcons are finding new and historic ways to lose NFL games despite having double-digit leads in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons went into the final quarter of Sunday afternoon's Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears with a 26-10 lead. The Bears were a mess and made a switch at quarterback, replacing Mitchell Trubisky with Nick Foles.
Instant Takeaways from Patriots' win over Raiders
And then it all unraveled for the Falcons. They were outscored 20-0 in the fourth quarter and lost 30-26, dropping their record to 0-3. This horrific defeat comes after last week's blown lead against the Dallas Cowboys when Atlanta coughed up a 39-24 advantage with 7:57 remaining in the fourth quarter and lost 40-39. A badly executed onside kick recovery was the final nail in the coffin for the Falcons in their defeat to the Cowboys.
Sunday's loss was even worse, though.
NFL Twitter absolutely destroyed the Falcons and head coach Dan Quinn for their latest ugly loss. Here's some of the best reaction:
Over the last 20 seasons, no team has blown multiple 15-point fourth quarters leads in a single season.— Field Yates (@FieldYates) September 27, 2020
The Falcons just did it in back-to-back weeks.
Since the start of the 2015 season, the Falcons have blown leads of 25, 20, 17 (twice) and 16 points to lose. Five of the 13 largest blown leads in franchise history.— Mike Conti (@MikeConti929) September 27, 2020

Falcons must replace their head coach. Intolerable.— Mike Francesa (@MikeFrancesa) September 27, 2020
Falcons owner, Arthur Blank can write all the books he like about not reacting out of anger or frustration, but Dan Quinn remaining as hd coach, is an ABSOLUTE failure on his part. Blowing 4th quarter leads of 15&16 pts in Bck2Bck weeks is unacceptable.— shannon sharpe (@ShannonSharpe) September 27, 2020
GOD DAMN THE FALCONS REALLY KNOW HOW TO BLOW A GAME 🤣🤣🤣🤣— THE KID MERO 🇩🇴 (@THEKIDMERO) September 27, 2020
Falcons need to rip the bandage off. With the number of injuries they had heading into this, a solid performance probably would've been enough to convince Blank they could wait another week.— The Falcoholic (@TheFalcoholic) September 27, 2020
Instead, they blew another huge lead. There's no upside to waiting
The Falcons fell victim to one of the classic blunders: being a football team from Georgia.— RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) September 27, 2020
I’ll be a Falcons fan till the day I die .. but I haven’t been this pissed since we lost the Super Bowl— Falcons Nation (@RiseAtlanta) September 27, 2020

I like Dan Quinn a lot. He’s a good man and a genuinely nice person. But this team is in shambles, and a change is needed. I don’t like it, I don’t feel good about it, but look at this damn team. I don’t see another option.— Jeanna Kelley (@jeannathomas) September 27, 2020
The Pats Super Bowl has literally destroyed the Falcons. Another complete collapse today.#CHIvsATL— TVTEDDY (@TVTEDDY) September 27, 2020
