NFL salary cap takes a gigantic leap in 2023 I The Rush

The NFL salary cap is ballooning to $224.8M in 2023, seemingly contradicting a claim made by Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the Pat McAfee show last week. The injury suffered by 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy during the NFC Championship Game is significant and will require surgery and Rush host Minty Bets makes her case in favor of the Pro Bowl Game’s flag football contest.

MINTY BETS: There's good news on the horizon for NFL team owners.

- What else is new?

MINTY BETS: The NFL's salary cap is moving on up to $224.8 million for the 2023 season. That's a $16.6 million increase from this current season's cap. Weird because just a week ago Aaron Rodgers had some thoughts about the ability of NFL teams to pay out mega contracts like his, which is worth about $60 million in 2023.

AARON RODGERS: I think there's a lot of teams because of COVID that are strapped.

MINTY BETS: OK. So that didn't age well. I mean, right now, the cheapest Super Bowl ticket for sale on TickPick is just under $6,000.

- You think money grows on trees.

MINTY BETS: Someone thinks so apparently. But ticket sales are a drop in the bucket compared to broadcast rights. Remember, Google is about to start paying $2.5 billion a year to host NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV.

- How much is that going to cost me?

MINTY BETS: Unfortunately for Brock Purdy, he'll be watching the Super Bowl from home this year after the 49ers were walloped by the Eagles in the NFC Championship game. Purdy suffered an elbow injury in the first half. And it turns out it's "Purdy" bad.

- I'm actually embarrassed for you.

MINTY BETS: The Niners third string/starting quarterback reportedly suffered a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow and will need surgery.

- Ouch.

MINTY BETS: Now the long road to the Super Bowl begins as we have to wait two freaking weeks to watch the Chiefs and the Eagles face off in Arizona. Good thing we have the Pro Bowl games to hold us over.

- That's funny.

MINTY BETS: Hey, I'm a Las Vegas resident who is super pumped to welcome the NFL's best players to my hometown to play flag football. I'm also a betting woman. And I put my money on that flag football game getting the highest Pro Bowl TV ratings in 10 years. You heard it here first.
