Report: Pats sign running back, former pro baseball player originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Gaffney left football to pursue a baseball career in 2018. He hit .194 in 51 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates' Double-A affiliate, the Altonna Curve.

A sixth-round draft pick in 2014, Gaffney has had stints in Carolina, New England, Jacksonville, and San Francisco but has never played a down in the NFL. He was on the Patriots roster for their Super Bowl XLIX and LI victories.
