More brutal news for the 49ers.

Coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday that 49ers starting right tackle Mike McGlinchey will miss the rest of the season due to a torn quad.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the news Monday morning.

Tom Compton replaced McGlinchey on Sunday during the 49ers' 31-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Compton gave up one sack, four total pressures in 35 pass-blocking snaps on Sunday, according to Pro Football Focus.

Per PFF, In McGlinchey has allowed two sacks and 13 total pressures in 275 pass-blocking snaps this season.

Though Compton replaced McGlinchey, rookie Jaylon Moore could be the 49ers' starting right tackle for the rest of the season. Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the loss that he went with Compton over Moore because the rookie has mainly been working on the left side. Shanahan said he'd consider moving Moore to the right if McGlinchey's injury is a long-term issue.

We now know the injury is indeed long-term, ending his season.

The 49ers selected Moore in the fifth round of the 2021 draft. He has appeared in four games but only has seen offensive snaps in two of those. Moore has as 59.9 PFF grade this season.

McGlinchey has had a strong start to the season and has a 70.4 PFF grade.

This is McGlinchey's fourth season in the NFL. The 49ers took him with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 draft.
