Report: 49ers could lose McDaniel, LaFleur this offseason originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

With their hellish 2020 season finally in the books, the 49ers now enter an offseason that could be rife with change.

The 49ers must decide what to do at the quarterback position, have to nail a top-12 pick and likely will lose defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who is expected to get a head-coaching job this offseason. But Saleh might not be the only member of the 49ers' staff departing this offseason.

NFL Media's Mike Silver reported Tuesday that Raheem Morris would target 49ers run game coordinator Mike McDaniel as his offseason coordinator if he gets a head-coaching job this offseason.

Silver also noted that passing game coordinator Mike LaFleur would likely be Saleh's choice for offensive coordinator wherever he lands.

Saleh already has interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and be interviewing with the Detroit Lions this week, and Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars have requested permission to interview him as well.

Under new NFL rules, the 49ers can't block McDaniel or LaFleur from leaving for a play-calling offensive coordinator position.

The 49ers also could see some changeover in the front office, as personnel executive Adam Peters will interview with the Carolina Panthers for their general manager job and could be a candidate for the Broncos' open GM job.

The 49ers are happy the 2020 season is over, but now the work truly begins for Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch.
