NFL power rankings Week 17: Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers surge with victories

The Green Bay Packers were 4-8 after a 44-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12 and many were writing off Aaron Rodgers' team.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were in the same boat after falling to 3-7 after a 37-30 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11.

Both teams are now 7-8 on the season after the Packers won their third straight game and the Steelers won their fourth game out of five in Week 16.

Can both teams continue their late-season surges and make the playoffs?

NFL Week 17 odds: Cowboys vs. Titans | Cardinals vs. Falcons | Bears vs. Lions | Jaguars vs. Texans | Broncos vs. Chiefs | Dolphins vs. Patriots | Colts vs. Giants | Saints vs. Eagles | Panthers vs. Buccaneers | Browns vs. Commanders | 49ers vs. Raiders | Jets vs. Seahawks | Vikings vs. Packers | Rams vs. Chargers | Steelers vs. Ravens | Bills vs. Bengals

It won't be easy. The Packers host the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17 and the Detroit Lions in Week 18.

The Steelers are at the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 and host the Cleveland Browns in Week 18.

Making the postseason would be quite the turnaround for either team.

Don't count them out yet.

32. Houston Texans (32)

Beat Titans, 19-14, to improve to 2-12-1. A rare victory for the Texans in Week 16. The team has the Jaguars in Week 17 and the Colts in Week 18.

Lost to Bills, 35-13, to fall to 3-12. Chicago has lost eight straight games and ends the season with the Lions and Vikings.

Lost to Buccaneers in overtime, 19-16, to fall to 4-11. The future doesn't exactly look bright in Arizona amid five straight losses.

29. Denver Broncos (28)

Lost to Rams, 51-14, to fall to 4-11. It's only been one season with Russell Wilson in Denver, but it has been a very long one.

28. Indianapolis Colts (29)

Lost to Chargers, 20-3, to fall to 4-10-1. Is Jeff Saturday really the answer for this team as coach next season?

27. Atlanta Falcons (26)

Lost to Ravens, 17-9, to fall to 5-10. You have to wonder if the Falcons made a mistake going to Desmond Ridder when they did. Perhaps Marcus Mariota could have helped the team win some of these close games and make the playoffs out of the terrible NFC South.

26. Los Angeles Rams (27)

Beat Broncos, 51-14, to improve to 5-10. Did Baker Mayfield and the Rams show something in their win over the Broncos or is Denver just that bad?

25. Las Vegas Raiders (22)

Lost to Steelers, 13-10, to fall to 6-9. We had much higher expectations for this team this season. What a disappointment it has been.

24. Cleveland Browns (20)

Lost to Saints, 17-10, to fall to 6-9. The Deshaun Watson era in Cleveland is not off to a great start.

Beat Lions, 37-23, to improve to 6-9. This team has to win at Tampa Bay this week to stay in postseason contention, but is just 1-5 away from home this season.

22. New Orleans Saints (24)

Beat Browns, 17-10, to improve to 6-9. it wasn't pretty, but the Saints found a way to get a win in Cleveland.

21. Tennessee Titans (17)

Lost to Texans, 19-14, to fall to 7-8. How bad is the AFC South? The Titans have lost five straight games to fall to 7-8, but they could still win the division.

20. New England Patriots (19)

Lost to Bengals, 22-18, to fall to 7-8. This team is not out of the postseason yet, but has the Dolphins and Bills to conclude the regular season.

Lost to Jaguars, 19-3, to fall to 7-8. The Jets have crumbled down the stretch and face a must-win game against the Seahawks.

Beat Dolphins, 23-20, to improve to 7-8. We thought the Packers were done this season. They now have a shot to make the playoffs if they win out.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (5)

Beat Seahawks, 24-10, to improve to 12-3. This team might be the favorite to take the AFC No. 1 seed with the Broncos and Raiders left on the schedule.

4. Cincinnati Bengals (3)

Beat Patriots, 22-18, to improve to 11-4. We dropped the Bengals behind the Bills this week because they weren't exactly impressive against the Patriots. They face Buffalo this week.

3. Buffalo Bills (4)

Beat Bears, 35-13, to improve to 12-3. Have a huge game with the Bengals on Monday Night Football this week.

2. San Francisco 49ers (2)

Beat Commanders, 37-20, to improve to 11-4. This team has now won eight straight with the Raiders and Cardinals left on the regular season schedule.

1. Philadelphia Eagles (1)

Lost to Cowboys, 40-34, to fall to 13-2. They barely lost in Dallas despite not having starting QB Jalen Hurts. That's not worth panicking over.
