Los Angeles Clippers star Patrick Beverley is taking heat after dismissing the head of the NBA players' union during a heated meeting about the future of the NBA season Wednesday night. According to Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, the 6-foot-1 guard continually interrupted NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts as she tried to explain the financial repercussions of abandoning the league's bubble. When Roberts calmly asked if she could make her point, Beverley curtly responded, "No, I pay your salary," angering his colleagues and derailing the meeting.
NBA players went on strike, clashed with each other then ended their strike only a day later before their big meeting with owners and before any tangible gains were announced. The Bucks – seeking justice for Jacob Blake and the Wisconsin State Legislature to address police accountability, police brutality and criminal justice reform – chose not to play Game 5 against the Magic on Wednesday. The Lakers and Trail Blazers, scheduled for the late game, followed suit.

The New York Yankees losing streak reached seven games Friday night after they lost both ends of a doubleheader to the New York Mets. In Friday's nightcap, the Yankees suffered the once unimaginable fate of being walked off on their own field. Because the Yankees were the designated visiting team for this makeup game, which was originally slated to be held at Citi Field, the Mets had the final at-bat.
World number one Novak Djokovic battled into the ATP and WTA Western & Southern Open final Friday despite a neck problem while Japan's Naomi Osaka shook off stress to advance as well. Djokovic was treated twice by a trainer for neck issues but rallied to defeat Spanish eighth seed Roberto Bautista Agut 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7/0) in the New York COVID-19 quarantine bubble where the US Open begins Monday. Fourth-seeded Osaka won a semi-final match she once vowed not to play, saving 18-of-21 break points to beat Belgium's Elise Mertens 6-2, 7-6 (7/5) and reach Saturday's final.

Edelman has been full of praise for Newton through the first couple weeks of training camp. Newton has played well in camp and is the favorite to start at quarterback for the Patriots when they host the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 of the regular season.
There's no cut this week at the BMW Championship, the second leg of the 2020 FedEx Cup Playoffs. But after 36 holes, the projected FedEx Cup standings are sorting some things out. Namely, we're getting a sense of who needs to do what over the weekend if he wants to advance to the season finale at the Tour Championship.
The Oakland Athletics acquired infielder 2019 All-Star infielder Tommy La Stella from the Los Angeles Angels for infielder Franklin Barreto on Friday night. La Stella has a $3.25 million, one-year contract that pays $1,203,704 prorated with the Angels, who acquired him from the Chicago Cubs in November 2018. La Stella also was an exceptional pinch-hitter for the Chicago Cubs before emerging as an everyday player with Los Angeles, and that skill could be valuable once again in a postseason run.
Europe's Ryder Cup heavyweights have lined up to criticise the LPGA Tour for its bizarre, if not disgraceful, treatment of Sophia Popov since the German won the AIG Women's Open last weekend. Ian Poulter, Tommy Fleetwood and Thomas Bjorn all expressed their disgust at the Troon hero not only being denied entry to the second major of the season - the Ana Inspiration in two weeks' time - but also the usual five-year exemption as a Tour member. It is fair to say that Mike Whan, the LPGA commissioner, felt under increasing pressure on Friday after Poulter called the Tour “embarrassing to the game of golf” and Fleetwood termed it “stupid to say the least”.
Matt Forte has responded to Brian Urlacher's Instagram post comparing NBA players boycotting playoff games to Brett Favre's Monday Night Football performance one day after his father died. Urlacher posted this message on Instagram Thursday morning. The post created a fierce debate on social media with some Bears fans calling for Urlacher to be "canceled" while others praised him for sharing his opinion.
LeBron and other Lakers players met several times late into the night in the Orlando bubble and started to change their position over time — it was in the best interest of all the players to finish the season, so long as there was a plan going forward to push social justice action. The change of position was something first reported Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports and echoed by Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times. LeBron James expressed a desire to go home during the players' meeting Wednesday.
Matt Kuchar has a familiar face on the bag this week at the BMW Championship after parting ways with longtime caddie John Wood. Kuchar's wife, Sybi, is caddying this week at Olympia Fields as the 42-year-old looks to extend his season another week. “John Wood called me after the week of Greensboro and said he was going to be done caddying, at least for me,” Kuchar told GolfChannel.com.
There are several teams with multiple first-round picks in the 2020 NBA Draft, but the Boston Celtics are in a unique position. They are the only team with three first rounders, with the highest coming in at No. the end of the lottery.
Using Yahoo fantasy football ADP, here's a round-by-round look at the value pick in each round of the draft based on a 12-team, half-point PPR league. Round 1 - Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers (ADP: 11.6) The Packers had a glaring need to add talent behind Adams at wide receiver and with Devin Funchess announcing he will opt-out of the upcoming season, the team officially has added nobody. Concerning for Green Bay's overall air attack?
It was one of the signature steps by the league to support players in their push for social justice: It would say “Black Lives Matter” right on the court for every game in the restarted NBA in Orlando. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said on his own podcast, The Woj Pod, that several owners did not want the BLM words on the court, although none of that would knock the idea publicly. It's not a surprise that some of the rich, white, largely Republican team owners would oppose the Black Lives Matter words on the court.
Justin Haley and his Kaulig Racing teammates had a meeting a couple of hours before the green flag at Daytona International Speedway on Friday. Ross Chastain waited much longer to make his move. Chastain wrecked race leader and Kaulig teammate AJ Allmendinger on the final lap, allowing Haley to pick up a victory no one saw coming.
Longtime Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and Hall of Famer Michael Irvin announced on Friday that he had contracted COVID-19 earlier this summer. Irvin said he became sick in the end of June, though his coronavirus tests came back negative multiple times — something that was extremely frustrating. “I didn't know I had it, and then I got real sick — I mean a pounding headache for like four or five days,” Irvin said on the show.
A comment from Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians about protests against the shooting of Jacob Blake has led to a back-and-forth with NFL Players Association executive directory DeMaurice Smith. On Thursday, Arians told reporters after practice that he held a team meeting in which he challenged players to commit to actions beyond protesting when addressing social issues like racial inequality. The comment was part of a larger quote in which he said “I don't know that protest is an action,” and that he would beg players “to take action, find a cause and either support it financially or do something to change the situation.”
The black suits and ties will be hilariously overdressed when attending the New England Patriots' “funeral” this season. That's until the disco ball drops from the ceiling, the defense turns life into a horror show for opposing quarterbacks and Cam Newton helps lead the team to Super Bowl LV in his first season in Foxborough. Be sure and hang on to the return receipts for those suits.

The crowd dispersed during the top of the second. Tyler Naquin also homered as the Indians got 20 hits, seven for extra bases.
