Tom Brady salutes Julian Edelman on retirement: 'I love you for all that you did'

Tom Brady and Julian Edelman haven't been teammates for over a year, but the connection they shared as quarterback and wide receiver on the New England Patriots is still as strong as ever. So when Edelman announced his retirement from the NFL after a 12-year career, it's no surprise that Brady knew exactly what to say.

The current Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB posted a heartfelt message to Edelman on Instagram, along with a picture of them together with Edelman in full caveman beard — a look that Brady's daughter, Vivian, doesn't love.

Edelman's attitude picked Brady up

Edelman was Brady's favorite receiver during their time together on the Patriots. He caught 571 passes from Brady, more than any other receiver he worked with. Brady said he admired Edelman's drive, passion and ability to perform on football's biggest stage.

Brady also gave Edelman credit for his attitude, which helped Brady through some tough times. (Despite all the success, it wasn't always sunshine and rainbows on the Patriots.)

You have so many teammates that admired your work ethic and will to win, and I am at the top of the list because when I was down and feeling sorry for myself at times, you were right there to pick me up. You were as tough as could be and I love you for all that you did to make our teams as great as they could possibly be.

We don't know what Edelman's post-retirement plans are, but Brady said that he knows Edelman will succeed at whatever he chooses to do next.
