Report: Jets QB Zach Wilson has 'best-case scenario' with sprained PCL, out 2-4 weeks

An MRI confirmed New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson suffered a sprained PCL in Sunday's blowout loss to the New England Patriots, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday.

The injury will keep the No. 2 overall draft pick out 2-4 weeks, per the report. He could return as soon as Nov. 14 at home vs. the Buffalo Bills. The next two games are at home against the Miami Dolphins and at the Houston Texans.

Wilson injured in blowout Jets loss

He was slow to get up after a hit by linebacker Matthew Judon on a pass attempt early in the second quarter. It came directly after an attempt near the sideline in which Wilson twisted his leg awkwardly while being tackled by Lawrence Guy.

The Jets were trailing 17-0 — they have yet to score in the first quarter this season — and would go on to lose, 54-13. It was the Jets' most lopsided defeat since they fell 45-3 to the Patriots in 2010.

Wilson walked to the sideline medical tent and was replaced by Mike White. Wilson left for the locker room, and the team later announced he suffered a right knee injury and was questionable to return. At halftime he was officially ruled out.

Wilson told reporters after the game the team believed it was a PCL injury, but further testing was needed. He said he felt a pop in his knee and it felt loose and unstable. A PCL injury was "best-case scenario," he said. Jets coach Robert Saleh added the team "initially" felt good about status of the injury.

Wilson was 6-for-10 for 51 yards before exiting the contest. He has started all six games and thrown for 1,168 yards with four touchdowns and nine interceptions while being sacked 19 times. The Jets are 1-5 with their only win an overtime effort against the Tennessee Titans earlier this month.

What's next for Jets?

White, 26, made his NFL debut in the loss, throwing for 202 yards on 20-for-32 passing. He had one touchdown, two interceptions and was sacked once.

The touchdown came on a 3-yard score to Corey Davis in White's first NFL pass. It made the deficit 17-7.

The former South Florida and Western Kentucky quarterback was taken in the fifth round of the 2018 draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He signed the following year with the Jets' practice squad and has remained with the team. He was on the active roster for four games last season but never made an appearance until Sunday.

Now he might take the lead for a few more games unless the Jets make a midseason move to bring in another quarterback.
