The NFL has 1,696 players across 32 rosters – and only one can win the MVP award.

Multiple organizations, such as the Associated Press and the Pro Football Writers of America, name an MVP for the current season, but the AP nominee is considered the de facto official winner.

AP named Aaron Rodgers MVP the last two seasons, but the Green Bay star is facing an uphill battle after the midway point of the season.

Who is favored to win the NFL MVP in 2022?

Nine weeks into the 2022 season, one thing has become clear: a star young quarterback is likely to win the MVP. Between the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles' Jalen Hurts and the Bills' Josh Allen, the future of the league is in great hands.

Mahomes recently pulled ahead of Hurts and Allen in the PointsBet MVP odds, as the 6-2 Chiefs haven't missed a step after trading star receiver Tyreek Hill. Through eight starts, the 27-year-old Mahomes has 2,605 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions.

While Hurts doesn't have the counting numbers that Mahomes and Allen do, his undefeated record easily puts him in the top three. In the midst of an 8-0 start to the season, Hurts has 2,042 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions -- plus six scores as a rusher.

The Bills' star quarterback has been exceptional, too. A recent elbow injury has hindered his odds slightly, but there's no denying his dominance so far in 2022. The 26-year-old Allen has 2,403 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions along with four rushing touchdowns.

The race still isn't close to over, with half of the regular season left to play. But these three are starting to separate themselves as the weather cools down and MVP conversation heats up.

Several other quarterbacks, including Lamar Jackson, Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Burrow and Geno Smith, also remain in the mix.
