NFL betting: Lots of bettors are taking a flier on Lions' chances of a winless season

Bettors do not like the Lions’ chances of winning a game in 2021.

Just over 55% of bettors at BetMGM are betting that Detroit will go 0-17 this season. The Lions would become the first franchise to go 0-17 in NFL history, and the first franchise in NFL history to have two winless seasons. The 2008 Lions were 0-16.

The Lions (0-7) are just +700 to go winless this season. That’s a scary thought for Lions fans. Especially given the odds of Detroit winning its first game of the season.

The Lions are +135 to get their first win of the season over the Eagles on Sunday. From there, no game has odds lower than +500. The Lions’ trip to Pittsburgh is at +550, Detroit’s trip to Cleveland is at +800 and a win over the Bears on Thanksgiving — assuming Detroit has lost three more games — is at +500.

Nearly 10% of bettors like the Lions to win over the Eagles while 8% of bettors like them to get their first win of the season over the Bears. If you think Detroit is going to win on Sunday, go ahead and take them on the moneyline rather than on the prop bet. You can get Detroit to win at +145 on the moneyline.

When will Arizona lose its first game of the season?

The Cardinals (7-0) are the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL. And bettors are split on when the Cardinals are going to lose their first game.

The most popular pick for the Cardinals to first lose is in Week 14 against the Los Angeles Rams (+1400). Arizona would enter that game at 12-0 and 21.6% of tickets are on the Cardinals to lose that game. Just under 17% of bettors think that the Cardinals will go undefeated in the regular season (+2500) and just over 16% of bettors are of the belief that the Cardinals will go 20-0 and win the Super Bowl.

Arizona is favored by 6.5 points over the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night. The Packers are set to be without receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard because of COVID-19 protocols. You can either bet Arizona to lose to the Packers at +200 for the Cardinals’ first loss of the season, or take the Packers on the moneyline to win the game at +225. Go with the bigger odds if you think the Packers are going to win.

The Cardinals are +240 to lose their first game at the 49ers in Week 9 and +500 to lose their first game of the season at Seattle in Week 11.
