The NFL owners approved a new training camp roster cutdown calendar on Wednesday.
Teams will be able to carry 90 players into training camp with a cut to 85 players on Aug. 17, a cut to 80 players on Aug. 24, and a final set of cuts for a 53-man roster on Aug. 31.
All of those dates are on the Tuesday following the first, second, and third preseason games.
The changes now give teams 12 days before the first Sunday of the regular season to finalize their rosters. In the past when there were four preseason games, the final cut day often took place on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, usually eight days before the first Sunday of the season.
The first Sunday of the regular season is Sept. 12, as the Jets begin on the road against the Carolina Panthers at 1:00 p.m., while the Giants play their first game at home against the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m.
