Newton girls post second straight shutout win

Mar. 29—Cailyn Doland scored twice and the Newton girls soccer team posted its second straight shutout during a 2-0 win over Boone on Thursday.

The non-conference match at H.A. Lynn Stadium was scoreless at halftime, but Doland's two second-half goals pushed the Cardinals to their second straight win.

Newton took 17 shots and Natalee Freese made nine saves in 80 minutes.

Freese has 24 saves through three matches and her save percentage is 85.7.

Doland's two goals against Boone matches her career-high for a goals in a season.

The Cardinals are 10-2 against the Toreadors since 2012. Seven of those wins came by shutout.
