Newton girls cruise past Des Moines East in tennis opener

Mar. 29—For the third straight season, the Newton girls tennis team swept Des Moines East.

The Cardinals played super sets to 10 games against the Scarlets at Aurora Heights Park on Thursday, and Newton dominated most of the matches in an 11-0 non-conference victory.

Newton defeated East 11-0 in each of the past two seasons, too, and won 10-1 three years ago.
