Newton bowlers sweep Bondurant-Farrar

Feb. 7—BONDURANT — The best game and series of Aeris Archer's career helped the Newton girls' bowling team to a win over Bondurant-Farrar on Tuesday.

Alex Kearse also made his season debut on the boys' varsity team and his career-best series assisted the Cardinals to a narrow win over the Bluejays.

The Newton girls used a lead from the individual round to down Bondurant-Farrar 2,246 to 2,086 and the boys defeated the Bluejays 2,794 to 2,721 at Great Escape.

Genessa Slings

Archer tied for fourth overall on the girls' side. That's the best finish of her career as she posted a career-best 294 series with single games of 128 and a career-best 166.

Genessa Slings was the overall winner with a 379 series. She had single games of 195 and 194.

Libbie Keith was the runner-up with a 342 series. Her single games were 148 and 194. Gabbie Humphrey tied Archer in fourth with her 294 series. Humphrey's single games were 160 and 134.

The other two varsity bowlers were Maria Baxin and Marissa Burns, who were eighth and 12th, respectively. Baxin rolled a 269 series with single games of 133 and 136 and Burns turned in a 225 series with individual games of 100 and 125.

Jacki Baas led the Bondurant-Farrar girls in third with a season-best 319 series.

The Cardinals (7-1) led 1,578 to 1,405 after the individual round. The B-F girls (3-9) outscored Newton 681-668 in the Baker games.

The Newton girls JV was led by Alex Schultz, who turned in a 235 series. She had single games of 118 and 117.

Kearse's career-best varsity series of 388 included single games of 156 and a career-best 188. He was seventh overall in the final standings.

Owen Guldberg finished third, Sebastian King was fourth and Austin Kennedy placed fifth to lead the Cardinals, who improved to 6-2.

Guldberg posted a 399 series with single games of 155 and 244, King started with a 233 and finished with a 165 for a 398 series and Kennedy totaled a 372 series with single games of 179 and 193.

The final two Cardinal varsity bowlers were Tamion Adams and Andrew Wiles, who tied for eighth in the final standings with identical 332 series.

Adams' single games were 196 and 136 and Wiles turned in individual games of 172 and 160.

Bondurant-Farrar's Rylan Rohlfsen was the overall winner with a season-best 424 series. He totaled single games of 188 and a season-best 236.

Alex Frazier finished second with a 403 series. His single games were 189 and 214.

The Newton boys (6-2) led 1,845 to 1,773 after the individual round. The Cardinals edged the Bluejays 949-948 in the Baker games. Bondurant-Farrar fell to 5-7.

A pair of Cardinal JV bowlers were better than some of the varsity bowlers, too.

Austin Kennedy

Gentry Swarts had the best Newton score for the day with a 401 series. His single games were 199 and 202.

Ethan Valtman posted a 384 series with single games of 176 and 208 and David Holmes turned in a 344 series with single games of 173 and 171.
