A dedicated youth football coach was gunned down in front of his horrified team after a team practice Thursday night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
According to multiple reports, Dave Williams, 43, a volunteer coach for the Ft. Lauderdale Hurricanes 7-and-under team, told a group of children to run when he saw several black males with guns approach him at a busy park just before 9 p.m.
"I just heard the shots, ran in that direction and found one of my coaches on the ground, fighting for his life," said Jamaal Gaines, president of the Fort Lauderdale Hurricanes, via the Sun Sentinel.
Police said his killers fled from the area after the shooting and have yet to be identified. Police are investigating the motive of the killing.
Known by his players as "Coach Disco Dave," Williams was also a DJ and business owner.
