The New York Yankees activated infielder Eduardo Nunez from the 60-day disabled list Saturday and placed right-handed pitcher David Phelps on the 15-day DL with a right forearm sprain.
Nunez was out for two months with a left ribcage strain. He went 6-for-16 with one RBI and four walks in seven minor league rehab games. He will fill in at shortstop until Derek Jeter returns.
Phelps allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. He has a 5.01 ERA over 82 2/3 innings this season.
His spot in the rotation will be held by Ivan Nova, who tossed a complete-game victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday with 11 strikeouts.
