The Winnipeg Jets will host the 2016 NHL Heritage Classic outdoor game, the league announced Tuesday.
The game will take place at the Investors Group Field but the exact date and opponent have yet to be determined.
Jets chairman Mark Chipman also confirmed to the Winnipeg Free Press that the Jets will host the game.
"The NHL has confirmed to me they are going to do an outdoor game in Winnipeg," Chipman said. "I don't have a specific date to announce but it would be our preference that we do it in the 2015-16 season.
"The league's commitment to doing an outdoor game in our city is fantastic. It's something we've been talking about for some time and it's part of a significant strategy to do outdoor games and it will be great to be a part of it."
The 2015-16 season will mark the Jets' fifth year in Winnipeg, after the franchise moved there from Atlanta.
