Update: Lopez was traded to the Rockies on Tuesday in exchange for Alex White and a pitcher to be named later, the Denver Post reports.
Recommendation: The Rockies will also receive a player to be named later or cash from the Astros in the deal. In acquiring Lopez, the Rockies achieved one of their top offseason priorities in finding a setup man for Rafael Betancourt. During his run as Astros closer last season, Lopez showed an ability to find the strike zone and limit fly balls, facets of his game that should play well at Coors Field. With Betancourt in the last year of his contract, it's a possibility that he might be dealt at the deadline if the Rockies are out of playoff contention, which could give Lopez a chance at taking over the closer's role at some point this season. Even if that doesn't materialize, a quality season could land Lopez in the ninth inning role in 2014, especially if Rex Brothers' walk rate continues to be problematic.
