Junior guard Brandon Britt scored 20 points, leading William & Mary to a 75-63 victory over Georgia State in a Colonial Athletic Association game on Monday at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va.
Britt made 7 of 11 field-goal attempts and 6 of 8 from 3-point range for William & Mary (12-14, 6-9 CAA). Senior guard Matt Rum scored 16 points.
Freshman guard R.J. Hunter scored 15 points for Georgia State (14-15, 9-7), which had won two in a row.
William & Mary began to pull away after Britt made back-to-back 3-pointers, giving his team a 31-16 lead with 5:55 remaining in the opening half. Britt sank another 3-pointer moments later, putting the Tribe up 36-20 with 4:11 to go.
William & Mary led 38-27 at the break and quickly extended its lead in the second half. Guard Marcus Thornton, Rum and Britt made 3-pointers in the first 1:15, giving the Tribe a 47-29 lead with 18:45 remaining.
Georgia State mounted a 15-1 run to cut William & Mary's lead to 48-44 with 14:44 to play, but the Tribe outscored the Panthers 20-6 over the next 10 minutes to take a 68-50 lead with 5:53 to go.
