Wild re-sign Backstrom to three-year deal

The Minnesota Wild re-signed goaltender Niklas Backstrom to a three-year deal, avoiding free agency, the team announced Monday.

Backstrom, 35, was 24-15-3 with a 2.48 goals against average and .909 save percentage in 42 games last season.

He missed the playoffs after getting hurt during warmups before Game 1 of the first round against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Backstrom was tied for first in the NHL in win and tied for fifth in games played. Backup goalie Josh Harding is also under contract with Minnesota.
