Wieters sits out due to tight biceps

Matt Wieters is somewhat of an iron man among catchers.

Quite simply, he'd rather not have a day off.

However, the Baltimore Orioles' young All-Star sat out Friday after playing through a tight right biceps Thursday. He hoped to be available for Saturday and Sunday in a key series against the Oakland A's.

The Orioles have some depth at the position, with Taylor Teagarden serving as the backup, and veteran Ronny Paulino and Luis Exposito available at Class AAA Norfolk. Both Paulino and Exposito have spent time in Baltimore this year.

The rest may do Wieters well. He's stuck in a 1-for-30 slump, and he is 0-for-15 in his past four games.

He anticipated receiving treatment on his arm Friday into Saturday.

In the event of an emergency, Wieters was available Friday. He wasn't used. Teagarden went 1-for-5 in Baltimore's 14-9 loss, a game Oakland stole with a six-run ninth inning.
