The Chicago White Sox activated first baseman Paul Konerko from the 15-day disabled list Monday.
Konerko has been out since July 3 because of a lower back strain.
The club opened up a roster spot for Konerko on Sunday by optioning infielder Brent Morel to Class AAA Charlotte.
Konerko went 4-for-10 in three rehab games for Class AA Birmingham, including a three-hit game Saturday.
Konerko will split designated hitter duties with Adam Dunn. He has played 34 games at first base this season and 33 at DH. He is batting .249 with a .314 on-base percentage, a .368 slugging percentage, seven homers and 30 RBI.
Morel is hitting .200 in 12 major league games this season.
