Tarek and Christina El Moussa have been married seven years and hosts of HGTV’s Flip or Flop for three of those years. But now, both of those things may be coming to an end after the couple went through a messy breakup, landing them at the center of rumors and tabloid reports about their marriage.

The couple was at the center of a dramatic incident this past May, with police receiving a call about “a possibly suicidal male with a gun,” according to TMZ. “Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage,” the El Moussas said in a statement, according toPeople. “We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed.”

Now, the couple says they have decided to separate but keep working together and focus on co-parenting their kids. “During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” Tarek and Christina said in the statement. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”

Since the announcement, rumors have swirled about what led the couple to break up, who they’re dating now, and what’s in store for their hit HGTV show. Now, E! News reports that there are still episodes left on the El Moussas’ contract, so those will be filmed next year and then will air. “The show will end after that,” a source told the network.

The hosts also posted a message on Facebook Monday thanking fans for their support. "We have worked together since our early 20s and we will continue to do so moving forward while we continue to make our children our priority," the post reads.

HGTV has remained supportive of the couple, but didn't elaborate on the future of the show. The network released the following statement about the future of Flip or Flop: “We admire and appreciate Tarek and Christina's great work on Flip or Flop. When it comes to matters related to their own family, we respect their privacy and honor any decision that works best for them and their children. HGTV is currently airing episodes of Flip or Flop and the series will continue production as scheduled.”
