Week 3: Looks and Touches

The following is a list of the Week 3 leaders in looks and touches. It defines those running backs and receivers who received the most attention this past weekend.

Touches is defined as the number of times a running back carried or caught the football.
 Looks is defined as the number of times a player was the intended target of a pass.

With fantasy owners looking for help in the running game and still sorting out the rapport between quarterbacks and their secondary and tertiary targets, it's time to break down the play-by-play records and rip the box scores apart.

Looks
Gus Frerotte's completion percentage (51.8 percent) isn't going to set the league on fire, but he makes frequent use of Chris Chambers, who has a healthy 37 looks through three games.

It remains to be seen how often the Chiefs will fall behind and force Trent Green to fire up mass attempts. But, it's clear that second-year receiver Samie Parker has become a deep threat and frequent target. Parker has been thrown to 19 times already.

The 49ers have found a second receiver to complement Brandon Lloyd and offset the loss of TE Eric Johnson in Arnaz Battle. Battle has been the target of 23 Tim Rattay passes. It will be interesting to see how his role changes if Mike Nolan decides to make the QB change to Alex Smith.

Byron Leftwich is quickly adapting to having a new set of weaponry in his receiving corps. Jimmy Smith got the TD glory in OT against the Jets, but Reggie Williams and Matt Jones are growing in this offense behind the reinvigorated running efforts of Fred Taylor. Both were targeted seven times by Leftwich on Sunday (18 and 15 for the season, respectively), and Jones even got to throw a pass.

Touches
For the third straight week, Cadillac Williams rolled easily past the 100-yard mark, despite an injured foot. He led all backs with 38 touches this week.

Mewelde Moore capably handled the running responsibilities for the Vikings to help them get in the win column with 24 touches this week. Moe Williams will still be around to pilfer goal line carries, but Michael Bennett appears out of the big picture for the time being.

Lee Suggs returned to the field for the Browns, but he failed to make a dent in Reuben Droughns' workload. Droughns handled the ball 25 times this past week against Indianapolis.

The pounding administered by the Falcons running attack against the Bills led to a split in carries between Warrick Dunn (16) and T.J. Duckett (12). Duckett doubled his number of carries in 2005 with that performance, and scored for the third straight game.
