Manchester United star striker Wayne Rooney will be out for 2-3 week with a knee injury sustained in practice, Manchester manager Alex Ferguson said Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported.
Rooney, who sustained ligament damage behind his knee, sat out Wednesday's 4-3 victory over Newcastle.
Rooney also will miss Premier League matches against West Brom and Wigan and the FA Cup third-round match at West Ham on January 5.
It's uncertain whether he'll be ready for the January 13 game against Liverpool.
