Warriors' Mike Brown almost got arrested for following the Spurs' bus
Golden State Warriors acting head coach Mike Brown has experienced plenty of success while filling in for the on-leave Steve Kerr. The Warriors have not lost in Brown’s seven games as their leader on the bench, and nothing has changed the impression that they’re the favorites to win the 2017 NBA championship and claim their second title in three seasons.

Nevertheless, that perfect record and lofty status has not been enough to get Brown preferential treatment on his way into the Oracle Arena parking lot. As Brown explained before Tuesday night’s Western Conference Finals Game 2, he had some trouble with police when he tried to follow the San Antonio Spurs’ bus and its motorcade through security:

The punchline here is definitely the moment when Popovich phones Brown, his old assistant with the Spurs from 2000 to 2003. Pop offered his own version of events in his own pregame press conference:

It’s good that the two coaches were able to have a laugh over the situation. We’ll take anything over the sniping regarding Zaza Pachulia’s close-out that re-sprained Kawhi Leonard’s ankle. The Spurs star will sit out Game 2.
We’ll see if the police at Oracle Arena recognize Brown’s Range Rover at the team’s next home game. Maybe he should put a Warriors license plate cover on it to be safe.
