American skier Lindsey Vonn will undergo surgery next week in Colorado on her right knee that was injured in a crash at the world championships.
Vonn tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial collateral ligament and broke a bone in her right leg during a fall in the super-G event this week.

Despite suffering the serious injuries, Vonn vowed to recover in time to compete in the Winter Olympics next February.

"I am grateful to my fans for the outpouring of support, which has really helped me stay positive," Vonn said. "I can assure you that I will work as hard as humanly possible to be ready to represent my country next year in Sochi."
Vonn, an Olympic downhill champion, was released from a hospital in Austria on Tuesday and will return home to Vail, Colo., where the surgery will be performed.
Her recovery could take up to eight months, according to doctors. The U.S. ski team expects her back for the next World Cup season.
