Injured Virginia Tech safety Michael Cole, who was taken off the field on a stretcher during the third quarter of the Hokies' loss to Florida State, was released from a hospital late Thursday night after sustaining a cervical neck sprain.
Cole was face down on the field for several minutes after making a tackle on Florida Stae running back Lonnie Pryor. The redshirt freshman was stabilized and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for precautionary tests, Hokies athletic trainer Mike Goforth said.
"He was conscious on the field, able to move all extremities, but had neck pain and numbness in the upper extremities," Goforth said. "His CT scan is negative for any fracture."
Cole, who is expected to make a full recovery, has registered 43 tackles and two interceptions this season.
