Guard Treveon Graham hit a three-pointer to break a tie with 1.1 seconds to play to give No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth a 59-56 road victory over No. 25 Virginia in a foul-plagued game that saw both teams leave a lot of points at the free throw line.
Virginia led by six, 55-49, on forward Darion Atkins' jumper, but VCU went on a 7-0 run and took the lead on a jumper by Graham with 1:18 to play. Virginia guard Malcolm Brogdon made the second of two free throw attempts to tie the score, setting up Graham's heroics. A 3-pointer by Virginia guard Justin Anderson missed at the buzzer.
Graham led the Rams with 22 points and forward Juvonte Reddic finished with nine for Virginia Commomwealth.
Guard Joe Harris had 18 points and Brogdon added 10 for Virginia.
VCU was whistled for 27 fouls, 15 fouls in the first half. Virginia had 21 fouls and 20 turnovers. Neither team shot free throws well: Virginia went 19-for-33 (57.6%) and VCU went 6-for-15 (40%).
Virginia led 26-24 at the half.
