Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Jared Allen and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Donald Penn were each fine $7,875 for grabbing each other's facemask during their game on Oct. 25, reported Friday.
Allen and Penn got into a skirmish with each other during the third quarter of the Buccaneers' 36-17 win after Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman threw an incomplete pass.
Penn kept shoving Allen after the play was over and the two players grabbed each other's facemasks. The bridge of Allen's nose bled after his helmet came off. Allen was penalized for grabbing Penn's facemask and Penn was called for unnecessary roughness.
"I came around the edge and kind of stumbled on the ground and then he came over and tried to hit me when I was on the ground so we got into a little altercation," Allen said after the game. "My helmet came off and slashed my nose. ... Nothing vulgar though. I know Donald from back at Utah State. He's playing hard and I'm playing hard. Sometimes, tempers get going."
