Matt Barkley has two of the top weapons in college football with receivers Marqise Lee and Robert Woods terrorizing opposing Pac-12 defenses.
But which playmakers will be around for years to come once Barkley turns the offense over to either Cody Kessler, Max Wittek or Max Browne next season?
Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin is banking on one of those options being Eldridge Massington, a four-star wide receiver from West Mesquite High School (Mesquite, Texas) who gave his verbal commitment to 'SC late Friday morning.
The 6-3, 205-pounder, who has relatives in Bakersfield, Calif., is USC’s fifth commitment in the Class of 2013 and the first receiver in the group.
Massington, who was recruited by new receivers coach Tee Martin and Marvin Sanders, chose the Trojans over offers from such powers as Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State and Clemson. He has the size-speed combination that makes him a candidate to be a prototypical 'SC receiver, and he has qualified for next week’s Texas Class 4A state track and field meet in the 100-meter dash. He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and the 100-meter dash in 10.52 seconds.
In 2011, he caught 41 passes for 667 yards and six touchdowns but missed the last three games with turf toe.
