Ulinzi Stars top striker has registered his surprise after he was nominated for the 2016 Player of the Year award on Thursday.
The forward was sure of winning the Golden Boot award going by the number of his goals this season but was also included in the battle for the the league's Most Valuable Player. With his name on the list for the awards; MVP and Golden Boot, Makwatta never hesitated to say that he was never expecting such a recognition but expressed his happiness in battling for the top award against the country’s finest players.
“It came to me as a huge surprise, and a good one for that matter. It was unexpected. It is an honor to be nominated alongside the league’s best and a huge reward for a good season,” Makwatta told the club's official website.
His team-mate, James Saruni has also been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Year award while their Team Manager David Mwangi is also up for the Team Manager of the Year award.
