UFC Newcomer Aljamain Sterling Replaces Bryan Caraway, Faces Lucas Martins at UFC 170

Olympic Gold Medalist Henry Cejudo Signs with UFC, Set to Fight Scott Jorgensen at UFC 177

Less than 24 hours after Bryan Caraway was forced out of his scheduled UFC 170 bout, his opponent, Lucus Martins, gets a replacement. UFC newcomer Aljamain Sterling will fill in for Caraway on the Feb. 22 fight card.

UFC officials announced the change on Wednesday.

Sterling (8-0) is undefeated and trains out of the Serra-Longo Fight Team alongside middleweight champion Chris Weidman. He’s won his last three fights via rear naked choke.

Martins (14-1) made his UFC debut in January 2013, accepting a fight on short notice and losing to Edson Barboza by submission due to strikes. He rebounded from his first career loss with back-to-back finishes of Jeremy Larsen and Junior Hernandez.

UFC 170 takes place on Feb. 22 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event is headlined by women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey facing fellow Olympian Sara McMann. Former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier will make his light heavyweight debut on the card against former titleholder Rashad Evans.
