UFC on FX 6 Adds Nick Penner vs. Eddie Mendez, Subtracts Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Ednaldo Oliveira

Francisco Rivera and Hugo Viana Agree to UFC on FX 8 Bantamweight Battle

The UFC reconfigured another bout for UFC on FX 6, which also serves as the finale for The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes, the first Australian version of the TUF franchise.

Krzysztof Soszynski and Ednaldo Oliveira were originally expected for the Dec. 15 (Dec. 14 in the U.S.) fight card, but somewhere along the way, Soszynski slipped out of the bout. UFC officials have now also confirmed that Oliveira is injured and off the card.

The Soszynski vs. Oliveira bout has been erased and replaced by a light heavyweight bout pitting Nick Penner against UFC newbie Eddie Mendez.

Penner (11-2) enters the fight coming off of a loss to Anthony Perosh UFC on FX 2 back in March. The Canadian fighter had been expected to return over the summer, but was sidelined with an injury.

He’ll now face Mendez (7-0-1), who has amassed his professional experience primarily on smaller shows in the Southwestern United States.

Mendez does have a victory over Fernando Gonzalez on the undercard of the Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal event that took place last December in San Diego.

A battle between TUF The Smashes coaches Georges Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson headlines the UFC on FX 6 fight card slated for Dec. 15 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.

Due to the time difference, UFC on FX 6 airs live in the United States on Dec. 14.
