UFC on Fox 4 TV Ratings Up from UFC on Fox 3 While Going Head-to-Head with Olympics

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s latest event on “Big Fox,” Saturday night’s UFC on Fox 4: Shogun vs. Vera, didn’t suffer a drop in TV ratings from May’s UFC on Fox 3: Diaz vs. Miller, and with final numbers released actually upped total viewers from the last show on Fox.

That’s still significantly below UFC on Fox 1, which drew 5.7 million viewers, and UFC on Fox 2’s 4.6 million.

Of course, UFC on Fox 4 also had the distinction of going head-to-head with the London Olympic Games.

“We were like, so, people really watch the Olympics?” said UFC president Dana White recently when asked about running an event opposite the Summer Olympics.

“People really watch the Olympics,” he added with a wry smile.

As it turns out, the Olympics were significant competition. This year’s Games have set TV ratings records in the United States. The first eight nights of broadcasts average 34.5 million viewers per day, according to a report by Deadline Hollywood.

The UFC on Fox 4 fight card underwent significant changes leading up to Saturday night, but in the end delivered what most reactions have considered one of the more entertaining fight cards in recent memory.

It also did well at the box office, pulling in more than 16,000 fans for a gate of $1.1 million.

UPDATE:

The final ratings for the UFC on Fox 4 show have now been revealed and the show actually ended up higher than the previous UFC on Fox 3 show in May. According to sources, UFC on Fox 4 pulled in 2.436 million viewers, which is a 1-percent increase from the 2.418 million viewers for UFC on Fox 3.

UFC on Fox 4 was the No. 2 program for Saturday night's ratings falling only behind NBC's coverage of the Olympics, while also capturing key demographics in the coveted 18-34 year old males, and 18-34 year old adult demographics. In both of those areas, UFC on Fox 4 increased their ratings over the previous show in May.
