UFC fighter del Rosario has heart attack
Shane del Rosario, a UFC heavyweight fighter, suffered a heart attack Tuesday, and he was hospitalized in critical condition.
According to Fox Sports, del Rosario, 30, was being treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Calif.
Del Rosario's manager at Iridium Sports, Jason House, posted a statement Wednesday on Twitter: "Shane Del Rosario had a catastrophic cardiovascular collapse at home on Tuesday morning. He was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated in the emergency room back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure. He is currently in the coronary care unit critically ill. Our prayers are with him and his family."
Subsequently, trainer Colin Oyama wrote on Twitter: "Shane Del Rosario hanging in there! undergoing Arctic Sun treatment! Keep him in your prayers please!"
Last week, del Rosario withdrew from a scheduled Dec. 28 bout against Guto Inocente due to a rib injury.
Del Rosario has an 11-2 record in mixed martial arts, 0-2 in UFC. He missed more than a year of action after suffering a herniated back disk during a car accident in April 2011.
