Alexis Davis scored a unanimous-decision win, going the distance with Liz Carmouche in the UFC Fight for the Troops 3 co-main event at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Wednesday.

Davis utilized a precise leg-kick offense to gain the judges' nod with scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

“I had a great opponent and I knew it was going to be a war,” Davis said in her post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “She's tough.”

Both fighters began the bout conservatively, not landing any significant strikes for a greater part of the opening round. Davis, however, landed a number of inside-leg kicks, and towards the end of the round landed a flurry of punches, backing Carmouche against the fence. Davis landed one more inside-leg kick as time expired.

More leg kicks came from Davis as the second round began. Carmouche later landed a right hand that opened a wide cut over Davis' left eye, forcing blood to cover her face. Davis followed up with more low kicks and punch combinations, eventually scoring a takedown towards the final minute of the round. Working from side control, Davis landed knees and hammer fists to the body. Carmouche then swept her and gained top position just before the end of the frame.

Davis came forward at the beginning of the round, clinching with Carmouche against the fence for an extended period of time. The two grappled against the cage before being separated, allowing Davis to score more with her leg kicks. Time expired when the two broke from a clinch and traded strikes.

With the win, Davis improves her record to 15-5, 2-0 in the UFC. Carmouche becomes the first female fighter to compete three times in the Octagon, dropping to 1-2 in that stretch and 9-4 overall.
