UFC Champion Georges St-Pierre Expected to Announce Future Plans in Friday Media Call

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been swirling in a cloud of mystery following his split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November.

Following the fight, St-Pierre mentioned that he had to step away from fighting for a little while to deal with some unspecified issues in his personal life.

A cluster of rumors and speculation ensued, as St-Pierre didn't say whether he was retiring, taking a vacation to clear his head, or something in between. St-Pierre and the UFC has called a media conference call for Friday at 2:20 p.m. ET for the champion to clarify at least some of the speculation.

Canadian news outlet RDS on Friday morning said that they learned St-Pierre would be taking an extended leave of absence from the fight game and relinquish his belt. They did not, however, cite any sources, so, while that is a distinct possibility given St-Pierre post-fight behavior, until he clarifies his future on the media call, it is still speculation.

MMAWeekly.com will be on the call and have a full report shortly after St-Pierre and White reveal what the current champion's future holds.
