UCLA's compliance department is investigating the designer backpack freshman Shabazz Muhammad had on during postgame interviews Thursday after the Bruins' 84-73 upset of No. 6 Arizona, ESPNLosAngeles.com reported.
"Our compliance is handling it," coach Ben Howland said. "They're very professional and we're aware of the situation."
According to the report, UCLA athletes typically use backpacks issued by the school. They feature the school logo, the sport they play and their uniform number.
However, Muhammad had a backpack that appeared to be a Gucci backpack. The Gucci website shows men's backpacks that range from $990 to $2,370 in price, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com.
Muhammad was not asked about the backpack during his postgame interview. It's not known whether it was actually a Gucci backpack or how Muhammad got possession of it or whether it constituted any NCAA rules violation.
