BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Chad Frazier scored 18 points Saturday and CJ Washington added 17 and grabbed 10 rebounds as UAB beat Division II Newberry 96-75.
Ranked first in rebounds with 48.4 per game, UAB (11-3) outrebounded Newberry (8-3) 50-23 and shot 47.9 percent from the field to 40 percent.
Fahro Alihodzic and Robert Williams each scored 14 for UAB and Rod Rucker and Jordan Swing added 11 apiece.
The lead changed hands six times in the first half until a 3-pointer by Frazier put UAB ahead 26-19. The Blazers capitalized on nine steals and 12 forced turnovers, and pulled away to a 52-41 halftime lead.
Newberry opened the second half with a 7-2 run, but Frazier hit back-to-back 3-pointers, sparking a 10-2 run and UAB finished strong.
Demarkus Smith scored 16 for Newberry. Brandon Taylor and Gerald Evans each scored 12 and Dondray Walker added 10. The game was an exhibition for Newberry.
