Brigham Young has suspended senior safety Joe Sampson and sophomore linebacker Zac Stout for violating unspecified team rules.
BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall announced Thursday night the suspensions that apparently resulted from an altercation on Halloween. School officials said both players withdrew from school and won't return to the team this season.
Sampson had 33 tackles in eight starts this this. Stout played as a freshman in 2011 but was sitting out the 2012 season because of an injury.
The Daily Herald confirmed with Provo Police that the players were involved in an incident but that charges are unlikely to be filed after witnesses and the parties involved are contacted.
