Tulsa picks up graduate transfer from Arizona State

James Johnson, a safety at Arizona State, announced on February 21 that he would transfer and play elsewhere for one season after graduating from ASU this coming May. As Inside Tulsa Sports reported on March 10, Johnson made an official visit to the Golden Hurricane campus last weekend, and he has now announced he will transfer to TU.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder signed with the Sun Devils in 2013 over offers from Arizona, Colorado, Fresno State, Houston, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon State, San Jose State and Wyoming. Originally from Upland, California, he redshirted in 2013 and then played in 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2014 with 25 tackles.

Johnson had 10 tackles in 10 games as a sophomore in 2015. He's listed as playing in one game as a junior in 2016 with two tackles and a pass breakup. He will enroll at Tulsa this summer and will immediately be in the mix for significant playing time.
