Trubisky already proving to be opposite of Cutler

New Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky does have one thing in common with Jay Cutler. In just a short period of time, Trubisky has dealt with his fair share of hate. However, outside of that, the two are complete opposites.

For starters, their respective styles of play are almost completely unalike. Cutler has made a name for himself by having a huge arm and a gun-slinging mentality, even if that means turning the ball over on occasion. Trubisky, on the other hand, is more conservative. Sure, he has solid arm strength, but he flourishes off of making smarter and shorter passes. While Cutler is an underrated athlete in his own right, Trubisky is better at evading pressure and maneuvering around in the pocket.

In addition to that, the two are polar opposites personality-wise, at least from what we’ve seen so far. Throughout his tenure in Chicago, Cutler was a private person. He wasn’t an enthusiastic, upfront leader in the locker room. For every good story about Cutler as a leader, there’s one bad story, as well. Trubisky, however, has proven in just a few days that he will not be that guy. He tweeted at fellow Bears draft picks welcoming them to Chicago. He also congratulated his North Carolina teammates when they got picked. His body language and attitude in interviews is an apparent improvement over Cutler’s.

Obviously, it’s too early to say that Trubisky will be a better quarterback in the long run. However, the rookie appears to have the leadership qualities that Cutler lacked. Let’s hope that that translates to on-the-field success.
