Troutman leads Elon past UNC Greensboro 72-66

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Lucas Troutman scored 19 points and Jack Isenbarger pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Elon to a 72-66 victory over UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference play Thursday night.

Ryley Beaumont and Tanner Samson added 12 points apiece for the Phoenix (14-7, 7-2), who have won five games in a row and five straight against the Spartans.

Troutman entered the game with 976 career points and now needs only five more to reach 1,000.

Trevis Simpson scored 21 points, Kayel Locke had 16 and Derrell Armstrong 14 for the Spartans (6-14, 4-5), who had won two in a row and three of four coming in.

The Phoenix led 39-29 at halftime, but Simpson's 3-pointer put the Spartans ahead 56-55 with 7:03 left and Nicholas Paulos made it 59-56 with 6:08 remaining.

Isenbarger's 3-pointer put Elon up 68-66 with 1:31 on the clock, and Troutman's and Beaumont's free throws clinched it.
