Drake transfer Joey King was declared eligible by the NCAA to play immediately at Minnesota, CBSSports.com reported Thursday.
The 6-foot-9 power forward from Egan, Minn., was named to the Missouri Valley all-freshman team last season after averaging 6.9 points and 2.9 rebounds.
King is expected to start this season for the Gophers, who lost top frontcourt players Trevor Mbakwe and Rodney Williams from the 2012-13 team.
Minnesota's top returnees on the front line are Elliott Eliason and Maurice Walker, whose combined averages last season were 4.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Minnesota opens its season on Nov. 8 against Lehigh.
