Trainer gets to 1,000 harness racing wins for year

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) -- Ron Burke became the first harness racing trainer to record 1,000 victories in a year when Magic Starlight won the eighth race at The Meadows.

Magic Starlight beat stablemate Darena Hanover by 4 1/4 lengths, finishing in 1:53 in the $18,000 fillies and mares preferred. Dave Palone was the winning driver.

Burke got win No. 1,001 later Friday when Lucky House won at Harrah's Philadelphia.

Burke's stable won a record 906 races last year, breaking his own mark of 842 set in 2010.
