Towson scored eight consecutive points late in the game and held on to snap Delaware's five-game winning streak with a 69-66 Colonial Athletic Association victory Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.
Jerrelle Benimon, a 6-foot-8 junior forward, had 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Tigers (9-9, 4-1 CAA), recording his nation-leading 12th double-double of the season.
Devon Saddler and Jamelle Hagins each scored 16 points, and Jarvis Threatt added 12 for the Blue Hens.
Delaware (8-9, 3-1) lost to Towson for the first time in six games, including three meetings last season. The Blue Hens also had their 10-game CAA winning streak snapped.
Towson trailed 62-57 before Bilal Dixon, who scored 10 points, keyed the Tigers' 8-0 run with two layups, the second giving the visitors a 65-62 lead with exactly one minute remaining.
Delaware closed to within one point on two occasions in the final minute, but Jerome Hairston knocked down two free throws with 26 seconds remaining and Marcus Damas, who had 13 points, had two more with four seconds remaining.
Saddler, who pulled Towson close on a layup with 17 seconds remaining, missed a 3-point shot at the buzzer.
